Muscatine Iowa. Since 1993, the city of Muscatine had to spend thousands of dollars to repair a playground which has been damaged by flood waters four times including the flood of 2008. Thanks to a FEMA mitigation project, however, the city will have its playground and save thousands of dollars if it floods again.

The cities of Parkersburg and New Hartford, Iowa were hit by a devastating tornado on May 25, 2008. This is the story of the state/federal funding assistance both of these communities received and the recovery, renewal and rebuilding that changed those horrific days into a 'triumph of renewal.'

ORLANDO -- Representatives from CNN, The Weather Channel, other media outlets and FEMA participated in a panel aimed at generating ideas for helping the public to better prepare for disasters. The panel was part of the 2010 National Hurricane Conference.
